La Seo Cathedral

La Seo Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of the Savior, is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in the city of Zaragoza, Spain. It is one of two cathedrals in Zaragoza, the other being the Basilica del Pilar.

La Seo Cathedral was originally built as a mosque during the Islamic period, but it was later converted into a church when the city was conquered by Christian forces in the 12th century. Over the centuries, the cathedral has been renovated and expanded numerous times, resulting in a mix of architectural styles, including Romanesque, Gothic, Mudéjar, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassical.

The cathedral’s interior is adorned with numerous works of art, including frescoes, paintings, sculptures, and tapestries, and it features a number of chapels, each with its own unique style and decor. The cathedral also houses a museum that displays a collection of religious art and artifacts, including medieval manuscripts and illuminated choir books.

One of the highlights of the cathedral is the Chapel of San Miguel, which features a series of frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Saint Michael the Archangel. Another notable feature is the Mudéjar-style ceiling of the choir, which is adorned with intricate geometric patterns and floral motifs.

La Seo Cathedral is an important religious and cultural landmark in Zaragoza, and it attracts thousands of visitors each year. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the nearby Basilica del Pilar and the Aljafería Palace.
