The Museo Nacional del Prado, or simply the Prado, is a world-renowned art museum located in Madrid, Spain. It is one of the most visited museums in the world, with over three million visitors per year.
The museum was founded in 1819 as a natural history museum, but it soon evolved into an art museum after the Spanish royal collection was transferred to the Prado in 1868. Today, the Prado houses one of the world’s finest collections of European art, with over 35,000 works dating from the 12th century to the 20th century.
The collection includes paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, and decorative arts. Some of the most famous works in the museum’s collection include Las Meninas by Diego Velázquez, The Third of May 1808 by Francisco de Goya, and The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch.
In addition to its permanent collection, the Prado hosts numerous temporary exhibitions throughout the year, and offers a range of educational programs and activities for visitors of all ages.
